HOW TO TALK POLITICS AT A PARTY

This was written at a party that Wallace and I threw a few weeks back. At the party, an earnest young woman was starting up a conversation about politics. I'm sure she meant well bringing up the usual comments and arguments but it just wasn't a good time and place to get into politics with a bunch of drunk and/or high hipsters, rednecks, and artists.

She was kind of a drag.

So I started talking about President Billy and how he was going to give everyone a fish in their hat. It became something of a running joke and I elaborated about the whole "fish in a hat" policy. Everybody got it but her. I guess she couldn't figure out I was just trying to lighten the mood and avoid the never ending circular argument that politics can start in this country.

Later, the musicians and non-musicians were all jamming and I had no instrument so I improvised this story about Rufus and the Fish. I recorded it that night with my handy Zoom and I later re-recorded the same narrative with more competent musicians.

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.
