Songs of Desperation..... In 2001, I was fired from my job so I did the natural thing and went out and drank.... alot... I was already living in my van at the time so I just passed out where it was parked in downtown Flagstaff. When I woke up I couldn't find my shoes.... literally. Dirty barefoot songwriters are common in Flagstaff so I didn't let it worry me none. When it started to get cold in the high country I headed to Salt Lake City where I again found myself homeless because my landlord wanted to rent our apartment during the Winter Olympics to rich tourists at a premium. I couch surfed and used the money I saved on rent to buy a steel guitar. Up the street, friends were putting together studio equipment. They put some mics in front of me and I covered a noisy radiator with my sock.... These recordings went on for three years. I put out several albums but I was always too poor to print them. Finally, in 2005 I put some of the best tracks on a disc I call The Last Cold One.... The Last Cold One was written to the last PBR of a twelve pack on the Fourth of July in 2003. Cellblock Floor was written in Sarasota County Jail in 1999... Low was made up at an open mic in Flagstaff while we were waiting for the next act to finish getting stoned in the parking lot. these are songs of desperation..... |
